Ken Krawetz has lived and worked in the Canora-Pelly area all of his life, with the exception being the time he spent at the University of Saskatchewan where he obtained his Bachelor of Education. Ken began a teaching career in Invermay in 1972 and taught for 11 years until he decided to pursue a business venture. He owned and operated an insurance brokerage from 1983 to 1993 in his hometown of Invermay.

Ken was first elected to the Canora School Division Board of Education in 1985 and served as the chairperson for nine years. In 1988 he was elected to the Executive of Saskatchewan School Trustees Association. Ken was then elected as the Association’s President in 1991 and again in 1992. He served as Past President form 1993 to 1994. Ken’s experience with the school board encouraged him to enter politics as he was not happy with what was happening in the province and he believed he could make a difference for the people of Saskatchewan.

Ken was first elected as MLA for Canora-Pelly Constituency in 1995. During his years in Opposition he served as critic for a number of major portfolios including Education, Labour, Health, and Finance. Ken was also the interim leader of the Saskatchewan Party and Leader of the Opposition from 1997 to 1999.

He is currently the Deputy Leader of the Saskatchewan Party. After his re-election in the 2007 provincial election, Premier Wall appointed him Deputy Premier and Minister of Education, positions he currently holds.

Ken says his proudest moment as an MLA was “receiving unanimous support for the Holodomor Bill in the Saskatchewan Legislature.” He enjoys his job as an MLA, particularly because it affords him the opportunity to “meet with the wonderful people of Saskatchewan.” As for Saskatchewan, Ken enjoys it’s tremendous people, open spaces, beautiful scenery and distinct seasons.

As an avid sports fan, Ken has played hockey and fastball for many years. He is also a provincially registered volleyball official.

Ken was a member of the Invermay Kinsmen Club for more than 25 years and worked at many Telemiracles. His extensive dedication and volunteer work has earned him several awards including the Canada 125 Award in 1993, the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002 and the Centennial Medal in 2005. Most recently, the President of Ukraine awarded Ken with Ukraine’s highest honour, the order of Kniaz (King) Yaroslav the Wise.

Ken currently resides on the family farm that he continues to operate with his wife Gail. Gail retired as a teacher and principal after 35 years with Invermay School in the Good Spirit School Division. Their son Bryce resides in Yorkton with his wife Olivia and daughters, Willow and Scarlett. Bryce is a principal and teacher for the Good Spirit School Division. Ken and Gail have a daughter, Lindsay, who is employed in the oil industry in Calgary.
